This is a really good performance. Most other versions aside the original play a bit too fast for the entire length of the number.

Doesn’t look like the band are paying much attention to the conductors dynamic instructions. Shame about the poor sound on the recording and some tuning issues which stand out. Besides those points, not a bad rendition.

There are too few original Ralph Vaughn-Williams works for brass band. But they exist. Including the marvellous "Variations for brass band" and this Overture. My understanding was that it was composed around 1934 for a local fete. The manuscript was lost for many years. Now, this challenging and descriptive piece is available to us all. Love it.
